
MRW Invests 6.0 Mln Euro in Logistics Centre at Madrid’s Barajas
Spanish express courier MRW in Catalonia region, northeastern Spain, invested 6.0 mln euro ($7.1 mln) to double the capacity of its logistics centre at the Madrid’s Barajas International Airport, the company said on May 13, 2004.
The logistics centre currently covers an area of 20,000 sq m.
MRW also enlarged its packages distributing system, which is 234 m long. The system, which has two circuits, automatically divides the packages into parcels and envelopes. Each circuit has 140 exits, in front of which the vehicles that transport the packages to the air planes park. The new system will allow a total 26 vans to be loaded at a time.
MRW was established in 1977 in Barcelona, northeastern Spain. The company currently operates 28 logistics centres. MRW reported a turnover of 431.5 mln euro ($511.5 mln) for 2003. The company has a network of 692 franchisees, situated countrywide and in Andorra, Gibraltar and Portugal. The company has a total staff of 8,000. MRW owns 3,500 vehicles and three air planes.
