French La Poste to expand logistics network in Poland
French postal group La Poste seeks to expand its logistics services network in Poland as the logistics market growth in central and eastern Europe is very strong and the return on investments in the region is much faster than in western Europe, the company said on March 22, 2005.
La Poste will invest in the near future between 25 mln euro ($32.9 mln) and 30 mln euro ($39.5 mln) in the markets of eastern and central Europe, while largest investment will be made in Poland, where the company is already present. La Poste has in Poland, through its subsidiary GeoPost, a courier services provider Masterlink Express and forwarding services provider Air Cargo Poland. The company plans to set up a new logistics services company in the country, which will operate within the network managed by its subsidiary and will offer parcel delivery services DPD.
Currently, DPD runs the third largest parcel delivery network in Europe, after German postal operator Deutsche Poste and Dutch parcel delivery network operator TPG.
Earlier, La Poste considered buying the Polish courier services provider Stolica, but abandoned the plan and decided that it would be more effective to set up own company in the country.

La Poste Plans to Build a Network of Logistics Services
European Intelligence Wire 03-22-2005
The French postal group La Poste wants to invest EUR25-30m in Central and Eastern Europe. Most of that money could come to Poland, as the French plan to develop a third logistics network in Poland. La Poste is already present in Poland – through its subsidiary Geo-Post it controls the Masterlink messenger service firm and Air Cargo Poland. Both provide specialised services to different groups of customers. La Poste lacks a company that would offer simple logistics services on a larger scale. For this reason, the management is seriously considering creating a new logistics company that would operate within the DPD network. DPD is the third largest parcel delivery service in Europe. If the Polish branch of DPD is opened, most of the funds allocated for investment in the region would be allocated to Poland. Logistics services in Central and Eastern Europe develop very quickly, says La Poste’s management.
