German DHL Logistics to open centre for Gillette in Poland
German logistics service company DHL Logistics, a subsidiary of the German postal services provider Deutsche Post World Net, will open a logistics centre in Poland, to be used by the U.S.-based razorblade maker Gillette, in early April 2005.
Gillette’s 18,000 sq m logistics centre, to be located in Dabrowa Gornicza, in the Katowice Special Economic Zone (Katowice SEZ), in southern Poland, will be the largest distribution centre of Gillette in Europe, Katowice SEZ authorities said.
The centre will be build on a 28-hectare land, purchased by the UK-based property developer Parkridge Developments in 2004. DHL Logistics is a business partner of Parkridge Developments and prepares logistics centres for investors in the Katowice SEZ.
Gillette will open its 120 mln euro (USD154.9 mln) plant in Lodz, central Poland, in 2007. The plant will employ 1,150.
Parkridge Developments seeks to invest a total of 200 mln euro (USD258.2 mln euro) in the construction of logistics centres in Poland. Besides Dabrowa Gornicza, the company offers warehouse space in Warsaw, Piotrkow, Poznan and Wroclaw, as well as in other central European cities, including Budapest, Bratislava and Prague.
