Canada Post names Moya Greene Chief Executive
Canada named Moya Greene as chief executive officer of the country’s government-owned postal service to replace Andre Ouellet, who quit last year after the company was linked to a sponsorship scandal.
John McCallum, the minister responsible for Canada Post, nominated Greene, according to a statement distributed by Canada NewsWire today. Greene, 51, worked in government for 17 years before leaving for jobs at Bombardier Inc., Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Toronto-Dominion Bank, the statement said.
Ouellet, 66, was suspended with pay in February 2004 after Auditor General Sheila Fraser said Canada Post was one of several state-owned companies that paid Quebec-based advertising companies C$100 million ($82 million) in commissions for doing little or no work. Ouellet quit in August after McCallum called the CEO’s C$336,000 in 2003 travel and hospitality expenses “troubling.”
Canada Post has 70,000 workers and handles 10 billion pieces of mail each year. Canada had named Anne Joynt as acting chief executive during the search for Ouellet’s permanent replacement.
