Jersey Post: This acquisition is very different
Jersey Post has announced today that it has acquired Jersey-based online e-commerce company, Fetch.je.
The Fetch.je website was launched in Jersey at the end of March to support the local community with safe and continued online shopping during the pandemic restrictions. Featuring local shops, service providers, restaurants and cafés, islanders can order and pay online for home delivery or collection at their convenience.
Jersey Post has provided an established infrastructure and delivery network for the website since it launched earlier this year, however, the acquisition builds on this existing arrangement and provides Jersey Post with complete end-to-end capability. The organisation is now able to offer each step of the ecommerce chain from marketplace platform, warehouse management and shipping systems through to physical storage, fulfilment, conveyance and final mile delivery.
The Jersey Post Group has been working on an ambitious international growth strategy since 2015. This acquisition, whilst not international in its nature, still forms a vital component of the growth plans and demonstrates the organisation’s commitment to supporting ecommerce and logistics on-island through its universal service obligation.
“This acquisition is very different from those that we have completed in recent times,” said David McGrath, Group Marketing at Jersey Post. “The Fetch concept offers Jersey Post a unique opportunity to further develop the platform, for the benefit of the local community. It continues to be very much a partnership and we are excited about the potential developments for e-commerce in Jersey,” he continued.
Through the ongoing strategic development of the site, Jersey Post’s work with Fetch.je also offers support to local residents by providing a safe method to shop with favourite establishments during the ongoing pandemic challenges.
Tim Brown, Chief Executive at Jersey Post reiterated, “The Fetch.je acquisition may not be as global as our other partnerships but it is just as significant in its importance and role within our community. With Covid-19 continuing to disrupt normal daily routines, this website plays a vital strategic role in local business continuity, employment and safe shopping methods for the Jersey community. This is one of our most exciting acquisitions to date.”
Through the acquisition, the existing Fetch.je team will stay on and work with Jersey Post on the planned system development and modifications. These updates will allow the platform to accommodate an increased number of businesses ahead of the peak Christmas retail period. The Fetch website can be found at www.fetch.je.
