DHL bags Asian freight award

DHL was named the Best Express Operator at the 2005 Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards in Singapore last month.

The company’s general manager (Pacific Islands), Paul Roper said they were delighted to have been recognised as leaders in the express business.

“This accolade is further vindication that the investments we are making in our infrastructure locally in Fiji and throughout Asia are translating into a real competitive advantage for our customers,” Mr Roper said.

DHL Express in Fiji is currently renovating a 1000square metre warehouse and office facility in Raiwaqa.

“We will be moving into our new facility in Suva at the end of June,” Mr Roper said.

“Once we have completed this project we will be able to offer Fiji a complete “One Stop Shop” freight centre.

“Our customers will be able to come to us for all their international transport needs whether they are shipping an express document, an air freight container,a sea freight container, or if they require warehousing and distribution solutions – we will be able to accommodate all of these requirements from the new facility,” Mr Roper said.

This is the 19th year DHL has won the award reflecting the company’s market leadership and service excellence in air express offerings in Asia Pacific.

DHL also won the Best 3PL – third party logistics provider – accolade for the first time, in recognition of DHL’s expertise in supply chain management.

Mr Roper said both awards underscore DHL’s leadership and ability to offer the full suite of express and supply chain solutions from a single source.

“We are extremely honoured to receive these accolades,” said Scott Price, chief executive officer, DHL Express Asia Pacific.

“The awards represent our customers’ vote of confidence in DHL.

“Over the last few years, we have put in place a carefully thought-out strategy building on our infrastructure investments, domestic acquisitions, network coverage; and the development of innovative express delivery solutions in response to a changing marketplace.

Peter Landsiedel, chief executive officer – Asia Pacific said the Best 3PL award speaks volumes of the company’s pursuit in meeting the growing demand for customised supply chain management services.

This has been fuelled in part by the continuing outsourcing trend and globalisation.
