Daily Yamazake, AM/PM to start Yu-pack service in Tokyo in June

Japan Post announced Monday that Daily Yamazaki Co. and am/pm Japan Co. will begin handling Yu-Pack parcels at all of their Tokyo branches on June 1.

The two convenience store chain operators, which already handle parcels delivered through Nippon Express Co. (TSE:9062), have accepted Yu-Pack parcels on a trial basis at a portion of their outlets since June 2004. Having determined that they could expect steady demand, both decided to enter full-fledged arrangements.

In Tokyo, Daily Yamazaki operates 195 stores and am/pm runs 660.

Nippon Express will oversee parcel collection. Both convenience store operators are scheduled to expand the program to all nationwide branches by September.

Lawson Inc. (TSE:2651) began Yu-Pack services in November, and Ministop Co. (TSE:9946) is slated to begin them in June. Roughly 13,000 convenience stores nationwide will be handling Yu-Pack parcels by September, representing more than 30% of the total.
