Red Parcel Post to compete with Deutsche Post

A former board member of German postal services group Deutsche Post, Dieter Seegers-Kruckeberg, has announced plans to launch a low-cost parcel delivery company in Germany under the name of Red Parcel Post. Using new sorting and delivery technology, Mr. Seegers-Kruckeberg plans to offer significantly lower prices than rivals, such as Deutsche Post. There is speculation that prices could be as low as 2 euros per parcel, at least a third lower than the current market average. Mr. Seegers-Kruckeberg said that he was aiming to bring Red Parcel Post into operation at the end of 2006 or the start of 2007. Using just 2,000 vehicles and four sorting offices, he hopes to provide a 24-hour service for business clients. Rumors are currently circulating amongst rival parcel companies that Red Parcel is having difficulties finding investors to provide the necessary starting capital of 300m euros. Mr. Seegers-Kruckeberg, however, says that he will publish his list of investors shortly.
