UK lost letter problem not yet licked

Postwatch welcomes Royal Mail’s announcement of an improvement in the amount of mail delivered without loss, damage or substantial delay during

2004 – 2005.

Peter Carr, Chairman of Postwatch said: “Recent experience of overall customer complaints shows a significant reduction which reflects the improvements in service levels being achieved.

However, whilst any improvement in the delivery service is welcome, it still remains the case that over 15 million items of mail were lost during the year 2004 – 2005.

“Customers should be aware that they can claim compensation if their mail is lost damaged or delayed. If they are experiencing any service failures, Postwatch encourage them to get in contact with Royal Mail on 08457 740 740.

Complaints help Royal Mail prevent poor service being repeated.”

Notes to Editors:

1. Postwatch can help you make a complaint, or take up your concerns if you are unhappy with Royal Mail’s response to your complaint.

2. More details about compensation available by ordering the Postwatch ‘Guide to compensation for a poor postal service’ on the Postwatch helpline number 08456 013 265
