Red Parcel Post to be launched in 2007

Red Parcel Post, the new German parcel forwarder, is due to be launched on the market at the beginning of 2007. The Boes family, which sold its previous company to Denmark’s DFDS group in last year, is a shareholder in the new company. Manfred Boes, who is also president of the German logistics sector association DSLV, warns that, thanks to new sorting and mailing technology, Red Parcel Post will be in a position to offer more favourable prices than rival DHL, a subsidiary of the postal service provider Deutsche Post.

The new company is expected soon to obtain the signatures of investors, and the family logistics company Fiege is believed to be interested, although a spokesman for the company has declined to comment. Red Parcel Post plans to invest 250m euros in a logistics network with four ‘hubs’ and 1,000 drivers. It will aim to achieve a profit in its first year of business, and will target turnover of 850m euros by 2012. Sector experts have expressed uncertainty regarding the future success of the new company, commenting that Germany is regarded as the most competitive parcel forwarding market.
