Hungary’s express air delivery market to double in under five years
Hungary’s market for international express air deliveries is expected to be worth about EUR 70m this year, up from EUR 62m in 2004, according to a study by Deutsche Post, which owns express delivery service DHL Express Magyarorszag. The study estimates the market for international express air deliveries will grow further to EUR 100m in 2008, and to EUR 150m in 2010, more than doubling in size over five years.
According to the study, DHL Express Magyarorszag is leader on the international express air delivery market, with a 36pc share, followed by TNT Express Worldwide Hungary with 31pc, the Hungarian unit of UPS with 23pc, FedEx, which has no Hungarian unit, with 9pc, and the Hungarian post Magyar Posta with 2pc.
The study says the market for express road deliveries will grow as well, but not as much as that for express air deliveries. This year the market is expected to be worth EUR 27m, up from EUR 22m in 2004. The study estimates a EUR 50m market in 2008 and a EUR 70m one in 2010.
Hungary’s market for express road deliveries to foreign countries is led by TNT, with 45pc, followed by UPS with 19pc, Magyar Posta with 12pc, DHL with 3pc and GLS with 2pc. A dozen smaller companies share the rest of the market.
The market for express road deliveries inside Hungary is led by Magyar Posta, with 22pc, followed by GSL with 20pc, DHL with 13pc and TNT with 6pc, the study said. Several hundred Hungarian companies share the rest of the market.
The large international companies present in Hungary has started to open up towards small and medium size companies. DHL has started creating a network of Servicepoints jointly with Office Depot. The first unit opened it Budapest Bankcenter in August 2005 and the network is planned to have 25-30 units by 2007.
