New SingPost express courier service shortens delivery time

DELIVERY time for overseas packages is now shorter and less of a hassle, thanks to a new express courier service by SingPost.

Speedpost Express, which taps the delivery network of DHL Express, allows for shorter delivery time and pre-Customs clearance.

Under the new service, the delivery times for popular destinations such as Malaysia, Hong Kong and China are on average one to two days faster than other courier services currently provided by SingPost.

Pre-Customs clearance means that documents and packages are cleared for entry even before arrival at their destinations through a process where airway bills and commercial invoices are electronically transmitted when shipments are en route to their destinations.

SingPost said that this helps to minimise the chances of delays when the package reaches Customs at its destination. In addition, the service also comes with an online tracking feature on SingPost’s website which allows customers to easily trace and locate their documents and packages.

Because of the shorter delivery time and added features, the charges for this service cost about 30 per cent more than other courier services by SingPost.

SingPost said yesterday that the new service was launched to meet a demand for faster delivery of time-sensitive documents and packages overseas.

This was based on feedback gathered from its network of 62 post offices islandwide over the past year.

The service is now available at all its post offices here. Users of the service can also arrange for pick-ups from their doorstep. In addition, operating hours for some of the post offices have also been extended to 9pm for customers to drop off their time-sensitive packages.

These post offices include the Changi Airport Terminal 2 Post office, Killiney Road Post Office, and the Singapore Post Centre.
