DHL sees USD1.3 trillion Asia market

DHL expects the Asian freight market to grow by 83 percent to $1.3 trillion by 2020 from $700 billion now. Asia will continue to lead the world air cargo industry in average annual growth rates, with intra-Asian air cargo markets expanding 8.5 percent per year while express volume is expected to grow twice the rate of total worldwide air cargo, Yasmin Aladad Khan, senior vice president, Southeast Asia, DHL Express Asia Pacific, told reporters at the launch of the DHL Subang Gateway in Malaysia today. Khan said Asia Pacific contributed 15 percent to DHL’s global revenue in 2004. That is expected to grow by 12.5 percent, led by China, Japan and India, particularly in supply chain management services.
