DHL Express to invest USD11 mln in door-to-door service in Argentina 2006-2011
DHL Express plans to invest $11 mln (9.17 mln euro) between 2006 and 2011 in improving its door-to-door service in Argentina, the company said on March 28, 2006.
DHL Express offers that service in Argentina only to corporate clients at present. By 2011 DHL plans to offer the service in the main 150 Argentine cities.
DHL recently opened four storage and distribution centres in Cordoba, Rosario, Mendoza and Buenos Aires.
DHL considers that Argentine economy shows very good performance and has recovered after the economic crisis in 2002, which is the main reason DHL wants to boost its investments in the country, the vice president of DHL for Latin America, Norberto Lovaglio, was quoted as saying.
DHL operates in Argentina since 1947.

DHL, the Argentinian filial of the German group and one of four firms operating international mail systems in Argentina (along with Holland’s TNT and the US pair FedEx and UPS), is now to enter the logistics sector in Argentina. The national filial will post a turnover of US$40mil in 2006 – up by 20% on 2005 – and will focus on the door-to-door solutions niche: it hopes to attain a 20% share of the segment in two years, the segment moving US$50mil annually overall. The firm will invest US$2mil in starting up in this area nationally and US$1.7mil in the international implications.
DHL ranks top of the courier exports charts with 50% of the pie (in terms of kilos carried). It employs 527 people in Argentina.
