Restructuring of Saudi Postal Services under way
President of the Saudi Postal Corporation Mohammed Saleh Benton has announced that the country’s postal operations would be turned into a joint stock company under the name of Saudi Postal Services Corp.
Benton also said that the post office in downtown Jeddah on King Abdul Aziz Street will now be open on Fridays to make it convenient for the citizens to send their mail from there.
He said that the Wassel service, which is a program to deliver mails to residences, has not been activated yet even though many residences have received their mailboxes.
“We are in the process of activating the service and have already installed more than two million mailboxes in Riyadh and Makkah regions,” he said.
In response to reports about the increase in fees for installing new mailboxes, Benton denied there was any move to increase the charges. “It is only a rumor,” he said. “The service fee is SR100 per year and we are also planning to allow ten individuals to subscribe together in one mailbox with each one paying SR30.”
In addition, Benton said that the benefit of this service would extend to other sectors such as the Civil Defense and traffic police. SPC is working now to enhance their speed services through establishing 6,000 postal stops and 500 fully equipped offices around the Kingdom.
