Austrian Post buys Slovak mail firm

Austrian Post has entered the Slovak postal market with the acquisition of the direct marketing company Kolos. This is its second market entry in Central Europe following the takeover of Feibra in Hungary last autumn.

Kolos, founded in 1995, has 100% coverage of Slovakia and provides services in the areas of unaddressed mailings, direct marketing, geo-marketing and sales promotion. With 1,500 delivery staff, the company delivers about 300 million items of unaddressed mail per year, which is a 26% market share. It also has about 50,000 daily postal items through its lettershop activities for corporate customers. Austrian Post is already present in the Slovakian parcels markets through two subsidiaries, In Time and SPS.

Separately, the post office’s subsidiary, Feibra Austria, which specialises in unaddressed direct marketing, has bought a 75% stake in a Vienna free newspaper to broaden its portfolio of services.
