Qatar first Arab nation to bag postal Quality award

Q-POST has been chosen for the Quality award of the prestigious World Mail Awards. Announcing this yesterday at a ceremony held at the General Post Office, Q-Post Chairman Ali Mohamed al-Ali said Qatar’s postal corporation was the first in the entire Arab region to have been bestowed with the honour.

Terming the award as a “great honour” for the corporation, al-Ali said Q-Post was chosen in face of fierce competition by several postal corporations from all over the world.

In the ultimate race, postal corporations of Saudi Arabia and Portugal turned out to be Qatar’s immediate competitors, revealed the chairman.

He added that the award was in recognition of the tremendous efforts the corporation had made in the last few years to improve every aspect of its postal service, right from dispatch to delivery.

“The postal corporation also held a number of workshops during this period aimed at improving the quality of its services. The workshops witnessed the participation of several top experts working together to improve postal quality services not only in their respective countries but also at the international level,” the chairman recalled.

Al-Ali had received the award from Secretary General – Universal Postal Union (UPU) Eduard Dayan, earlier this month, at a function held in Paris.

The awards are instituted by Triangle, a forum working to improve postal services worldwide and the event was hosted in co-ordination with the UPU.

Al-Ali also revealed that Doha had put up a bid to host the ninth edition of the award in 2008. The next edition of the awards will be held in London.

The chairman announced that next year, Qatar would vie for honours in the IT and customer services sections of the awards.

Q-Post’s head of Quality management, Catina Aghayan said it was a matter of pride for the corporation to have been selected for the honour.

“The award is a recognition to every section of Q-Post that puts in a lot of effort in improving the quality of its services and diversifying the operations of the corporation,” she said.

Besides al-Ali, several other officials of the Q-Post were also present at the ceremony held at the Inward Mail section of the General Post Office.
