DPDHL to offer customers “climate-neutral shipping services for all modes of transport”

DHL Freight is introducing the GoGreen Plus service to reduce CO2 emissions from road freight transport.

This is made possible by the so-called carbon insetting, in which CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by investing in green technologies and fuels. In contrast to offsetting, in which CO2 emissions are offset by climate protection projects, insetting is about the decarbonisation of road transport through investments in low- or zero-emission technologies and fuels such as electric vehicles, biogas (bio-LNG or bio-CNG) or hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO).

“This is an important milestone for our company’s sustainability goals. With the introduction of GoGreen Plus at DHL Freight, Deutsche Post DHL Group can now offer its customers climate-neutral shipping services for all modes of transport. In this way, we are contributing to the goals agreed in the Paris Climate Agreement to limit global warming. I am proud that we are a key driver of the sustainable transformation of our industry. We now offer the GoGreen Plus service for all core products of our company – from Eurapid to Euroconnect to Euroline. Our existing green road transport projects are very popular with our customers and we look forward to extending our GoGreen Plus service to our entire product portfolio,” said Uwe Brinks, CEO of DHL Freight.

DHL Freight’s technology roadmap defines climate-friendly strategies such as improving CO2 efficiency by investing in bridge technologies and longer-term solutions such as hydrogen trucks for environmentally friendly road transport. In recent years, DHL Freight has already distinguished itself as a pioneer of green projects in road transport. For example, the company has been offering the insetting product Skicka Grönt in Sweden since 2018. By converting the fleet to biofuels (bio-LNG/-CNG, HVO) and electric trucks, this product has contributed to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

Deutsche Post DHL Group has set itself the goal of reducing all logistics-related emissions to net zero by 2050. The GoGreen Plus service is designed to help achieve this goal. It is based on the principle of displacement: the more customers book the service, the more alternative fuel or clean technology is used – so transport chains are gradually becoming greener. DHL Freight’s customers are part of a transformation towards the most sustainable transport system possible. With detailed CO2 reports for customers, DHL Freight ensures transparency about the CO2 footprint of shipments and the amount of emissions avoided, and the emission reductions achieved help DHL Freight’s customers achieve their individual sustainability goals.

In line with its sustainability strategy and the goal of climate-neutral logistics by 2050, Deutsche Post DHL Group aims to offer its customers environmentally friendly alternatives for all products and services of its divisions. For this reason, other divisions in the Group, such as DHL Global Forwarding and Post + Paket Deutschland, have also introduced the GoGreen Plus service for their customers. GoGreen Plus supports the sub-goal of covering at least 30 percent of fuel demand with sustainable fuels by 2030 . In order to reduce its emissions in line with the Paris Climate Agreement, the Group will spend seven billion euros on sustainable fuels and clean technologies by 2030.
