Austrian Post transports more than 1.4 million parcels in one day
Austrian Post‘s yellow aid angels currently have their hands full: On several days in a row, more than one million parcels were transported throughout Austria, with the daily record for December 2023 being over 1.4 million parcels. By comparison, on an average day in 2023, Austrian Post delivers just under 700,000 parcels. “At Christmas, the postal workers can rightly call themselves ‘Team Christkind’! With over 1.4 million parcels in one day, we have set an absolute volume record. Thanks to the expansion of our sorting capacities and the new parcel logistics centre in Vienna, we can now handle such record volumes almost in normal operation. Our customers always receive the high quality of the mail they are accustomed to. Even today, we deliver 97 percent of all parcels on the first working day after posting,” explains Peter Umundum, Director of the Board of Management for Parcel & Logistics at Österreichische Post AG. High shipment volumes, as in the past few days, are expected to continue until Christmas Eve. In total, the company expects to receive up to 56 million letters and Christmas cards during the Advent season, with Austrian Post expecting around 17.6 million parcels in December alone, an increase of more than six percent compared to the previous year. To handle these volumes of parcels and letters, Austrian Post has more than 1,200 additional workers on duty.
