Austrian Post: George Pölzl’s successor appointed

The Supervisory Board of Österreichische Post AG has appointed Walter Oblin as Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Österreichische Post AG with effect from 1 October 2024.

He succeeds Georg Pölzl, who has been Chairman of the Board of Management and CEO of the company since October 1, 2009. With 15 years of service, Pölzl will be the longest-serving CEO of Austrian Post.

Until he assumes the position of Chairman of the Board of Management and Chief Executive Officer, Walter Oblin will continue to serve as Deputy Director General and Member of the Board of Management for Mail & Finance. “Following an international call for tenders, we are focusing on continuity coupled with continuous development with the appointment of Walter Oblin as CEO of Austrian Post. As a long-standing member of the Board of Management, he has extensive industry and management experience in order to work with the Swiss Post team to ensure the stability of the company and at the same time drive growth and innovations that will lead the Group sustainably into a successful future,” says Elisabeth Stadler, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board, Österreichische Post AG. “I am looking forward to my new role, in which I will be fully committed to leading one of Austria’s most exciting companies into the future. Austrian Post will continue to be a pioneer in terms of sustainability and at the same time a reliable player in the capital market,” says Walter Oblin, Deputy Director General of the Board of Management for Mail & Finance, Austrian Post AG. Walter Oblin has been Chief Financial Officer of Austrian Post since 1 July 2012 and Deputy Chief Executive Officer since 1 January 2019. In addition, he is responsible for the Mail Division. His Board of Management responsibilities include key management and service functions in the areas of Group Accounting & Controlling, Group Real Estate, Group IT & Purchasing and Group Legal Affairs. Walter Oblin is also Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of bank99. “I am pleased that my successor has been filled from within our own ranks. Walter Oblin, a long-standing colleague and companion who has known Swiss Post for 14 years in various positions and will continue to develop the Group and its employees in the best possible way, will take over the management. I believe that Austrian Post is also very well positioned for the future,” explains Georg Pölzl, CEO of Österreichische Post AG.
