UPS Benelux: Michiel van Veen to lead our strategic and sustainable growth initiatives.

UPS has announced that Michiel van Veen has been appointed as the Country Manager for UPS Benelux, where he will be responsible for overseeing small package operations and driving business development and strategy throughout this vital region.

“I’m so proud to return to the Benelux. It’s not only where I began my career, but also home to an incredible team and one of Europe’s most dynamic export markets. I’m looking forward to supporting businesses of all sizes and help create new opportunities for them to trade at home and internationally,” says van Veen.

UPS Benelux boasts over 2,200 employees and is equipped with 10 world-leading logistics facilities, including a fully automated superhub in Eindhoven. The facilities are aimed at supporting the Benelux market, with the Netherlands leading in the number of internet users buying goods and services online (E-shoppers) at 93 percent. According to the eCommerce Europe’s latest report, this percentage is 82 percent and 79 percent in Luxembourg and Belgium.

In his previous role as Country Manager for Nordics & Ireland, Michiel was focused on driving export opportunities, including introducing new flight paths between Billund (DK) to Cologne and the US and Ireland. He also oversaw the launch of UPS Ireland’s Access Point network, creating hundreds of new delivery points.

Karl Haberkorn, president of UPS West Europe, says, “Michiel brings a wealth of leadership experience, having worked extensively in the Benelux and abroad. As a local, he has an intimate understanding of the local business climate, making him the ideal candidate to lead our strategic and sustainable growth initiatives.”

A Dutch native, Michiel joined UPS in 1997 as a part-time driver in Eindhoven before taking on roles of increasing responsibility across the Benelux and Central & Eastern Europe where he was Country Manager for Austria, Slovenia, and Switzerland.
