Ukrposhta: new sorting equipment to process 400,000 postal items per day
Ukrposhta has completed installation of automated sorting lines at the right-bank “Kyiv-Pravyi” logistics terminal.
The new sorting equipment for international, small and large postal items allows the terminal to process 18,000 parcels per hour and about 400,000 postal items per day. The company plans to automate facilities of all its terminals and to complete the transformation of the logistics network within the first half of 2024.
During the first half of the year, Ukrposhta plans to automate the capacity of six more sorting terminals (in Odesa, Kyiv (left-bank “Kyiv-Livyi”), Dnipro, Lviv, Kharkiv and Khmelnytskyi) and thus get rid of manual sorting.
In the second quarter of 2024, the company intends to open an innovative “Kyiv-Livyi” sorting terminal, which will house one more international parcel processing centre, which should significantly reduce mail processing time. Also, in 2024, additional automated letter and newspaper sorting lines will be installed. Ukrposhta’s 14-16 logistics centres in other oblast centres and large cities of Ukraine will receive lower-capacity automated lines for sorting parcels and small packages. This will ensure 100% automated processing throughout Ukraine. The total capacity is expected to be about two million postal items per day.
In addition, as part of its global transformation strategy, Ukrposhta is introducing a new approach to logistics routes. The restructuring of the logistics network and optimization of delivery routes between the terminals, logistics centres and depots, without unnecessary detours and stops, will allow Ukrposhta to deliver shipments to customers in all oblast centres and large cities of Ukraine the very next day.
“In 2023, the number of items sent by Ukrposhta increased by 40%. This means that customers trust the company and we, in turn, strive to be better for them. The new equipment will increase our productivity and sorting quality by eight. And the simultaneous transformation of the logistics network will ensure high-speed delivery, initially between oblast centres and large cities, and later to every town and village in Ukraine,” said Igor Smelyansky, Ukrposhta CEO.
“We planned our modernization for 2022 and did not abandon it despite the full-scale war, but we had to adjust our plans to build several terminals by attracting credit resources, as this would have been an inefficient solution in the new reality. Nevertheless, we have implemented a different, productivity-preserving approach and mostly at our own cost. We equip 100% of our terminals with Ukrainian-made automated lines and software and build new facilities where necessary. We are proud that at the beginning of the war Ukrposhta supported Ukrainian manufacturers by helping them evacuate their businesses to safe cities free of charge and now continues to support Ukrainian business by providing services at affordable prices and using equipment and software from Ukrainian manufacturers to the maximum extent possible.”
Ukrposhta’s next step will be to automate the sorting of letters and newspapers and the medications order fulfillment. Also in 2024, Ukrposhta plans to “reboot” key services and processes to digitalize services as much as possible and make them more convenient for customers.
