India Post to assist PHLPost in developing remittance program
Officials from the Postal Administration of India recently visited the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) to meet with PHLPost officials in an effort to augment and improve the postal remittance business in the country.
The move is aimed at facilitating and improving postal relations between member countries in the Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU). India Post is a key channel partner of the APPU in providing development assistance and remittance platforms.
Millions of migrants worldwide send billions of dollars in remittances each year to their families or communities in the country. In many developing countries including the Philippines, remittances are an important and largest source of revenues.
The delegates from India Post are Mr. Manoj Kumar, Director on Financial Service, Mr. Puneet Bijraniya, Director on Technology and Ms. Ritu Jhakmola, Director for Budget. They were assisted by Director Patrick David R. De Leon of the PHLPost Board of Directors and Assistant Postmaster General for Operations Atty. Lee Viceral during their 3-day visit in the country from March 25 to 27, 2024.
India has the largest postal network in the world. It has been the backbone of the country’s communication and has played a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic development.
As part of India Post outreach program, they will collaborate with PHLPost to develop the latter’s remittance platform. India Post has one of the most modern and successful remittance platforms in the global postal service.
According to Acting Postmaster General Luis D. Carlos “In a business forum abroad, we have tried to lobby with the Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU) to help PHLPost in its remittance platform. India Post has one of the most advanced and modern remittance platforms in the postal service. The assistance given by India Post is part of their outreach program to help the postal service improve its remittance business”.
