DHL Mexico releases its new air network, an investment of more than 200 million pesos.
DHL, the world’s leading express delivery and logistics company, announced all details concerning its new Air Network that will begin operations this week. The initial investment in 2005 was more than 140 million pesos. It is expected to increase to a total of 230 million pesos by 2007.
The decision to make this improvement is due in part, to the maintained volume growth that the company has registered within the last 15 months, which is more than 40 percent on shipments that require air routes.
With this evolution, DHL will fly about 3.1 million kilometers every year which add up to more than 6,200 flight hours. Annually, DHL will have the capacity to handle more than 4.8 million kilograms of packages; approximately 2 million kilograms more than the ones handled before the implementation of the new air network.
“The objective of this project as well as the investment, is to obtain greater coverage with our Networks; greater capacity in the daily package handling; and indeed, to improve the transit times”, commented Erika Quezada, Operational Planning Director, DHL Mexico.
There will be 6 daily domestic flights, featuring new generation aircrafts. This will mean a great benefit for the clients who desire to make shipments from or towards the following destinations: Hermosillo, Ciudad Obregon, Ciudad de México, Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Monterrey, Villahermosa, San Luis Potosí, Mazatlan, La Paz, and Guadalajara.
“The new DHL air fleet will allow us greater freedom. And unlike other express companies, we will be guaranteeing, more destinations in less time”, Quezada declared.
The aircrafts, among others, are:
Metro III- Fairchild SA227 aircraft: it has cargo holding nets; 18.7 cubic meters of cargo volume; more than 4,000 pounds capacity (1,750 kg); independent loading door of 53 x 61 inches (135 x 155 cm); and rollers on the floor to move the material inside the aircraft, allowing us to introduce packages of greater dimensions and weight.
SAAB 340- this aircraft has the most sophisticated positioning systems and automatic pilot; it has rollers on the floor, holding nets, and a 51 x 53 inches (130 x 135 cm) door; the volume capacity is about 35.8 cubic meters and 9,000 pounds capacity (4,000 kg).
“This project requires a substantial improvement in the different destinations since we will literally have the capacity to arrive at 98% of the country in 24 hours” the Director emphasized.
