Austrian Post Office in 2008 deal
Österreichische Post AG (the Austrian Post Office) has signed an agreement to become a National Supporter of UEFA EURO 2008™. The agreement includes a licence to issue and market stamps and any other philatelic products in conjunction with the final tournament in Austria and Switzerland in two summers’ time.
Österreichische Post AG is the second Austrian partner, after Telekom Austria, to have signed up for the final round, which will be staged in Austria and Switzerland from 7 to 29 June 2008. UEFA has made provision for a total of four National Supporters from Austria.
The aim of the programme is to create an exclusive group of four Austrian and four Swiss companies which will contribute through their services to the staging of the event. The support of major firms in both host countries is vitally important for creating links with fans and giving a local flavour to the staging of the event.
“The UEFA European Championship is the biggest sporting event in Europe in 2008,” said Dr Anton Wais, Managing Director of Österreichische Post AG. “Thousands of people will be working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that this unique tournament goes off without a hitch and remains an unforgettable experience for millions of spectators.
“We are especially pleased that the Austrian Post Office will be a National Supporter of what is also a huge media event because we know very well, as a company listed on the stock exchange, what a big challenge it is to stage an event of this scale.”
Österreichische Post AG, which has been registered on the stock exchange since May this year, is Austria’s leading postal service provider with more than 25,000 employees and an annual turnover of euro1.7bn.
“Having a partner like this is a dream,” said Friedrich Stickler, president of the Austrian Football Association and Euro 2008 SA board of administration member. “Through their stamps, stores and services, Österreichische Post will help generate and maintain enthusiasm across Austria for the event from a very early stage.”
