Austrian Post introduces new tariffs as “fewer and fewer letters are being sent”

Austrian Post is reacting to an amendment to the Postal Market Act and is simplifying its letter products as of May 1, 2025.

The previous “ECO-Brief” with a transit time of two to three working days will become the new standard “letter” product. For faster delivery on the next working day, there is the additional service “Premium”. This simplifies the product structure.

“Fewer and fewer letters are being sent in Austria. More than 80 percent of all letters are already sent with a transit time of two to three working days. With this simplification, we are adapting our product range to the Postal Market Act and to the changing needs of our customers,” says Walter Oblin, CEO of Österreichische Post AG.

Like the previous ECO letter, the standard “letter” product can be franked with stamps and dropped directly into one of the approximately 14,000 yellow letterboxes. The “Premium” additional service can be booked and posted directly at the counter at a postal partner, at a post office or at a shipping station.

ADJUSTMENT OF COLLECTIVE WAGES
From 1 May, the price for the smallest letter format, the “Letter S”, will be 1 euro. The additional service “Premium” costs – for all formats – 30 cents and can be combined with other additional services such as “registered mail”. In detail, the new tariffs are as follows:
