Austrian Post: Aras Kargo’s strong operational capabilities are a key asset
Austrian Post has announced that Baran Aras’ mandate on the Board of Directors has been extended for 10 years.
In 2013, Austrian Post acquired a 25 % stake in the Turkish parcel service provider Aras Kargo. In 2020, the stake was increased to 80% – the remaining 20 % remained with Baran Aras, a member of the founding family who also holds a seat on the board of directors. This mandate has now been extended for another ten years and underlines the successful and stable cooperation.
Peter Umundum, Deputy Director General, Member of the Management Board for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG: “I am very pleased to continue our long-standing and close cooperation with Baran Aras. In a strategically important, dynamic and growing market like Turkey, Aras Kargo’s strong operational capabilities are a key asset as we expand into new markets. With the extension of the agreement with Baran Aras, we are continuing our partnership in this success story for another ten years.”
TRACK RECORD ARAS KARGO
The past five years of Aras Kargo have been marked by numerous investments amounting to more than 1.5 billion Turkish liras and the entry into new markets such as Azerbaijan, Georgia and soon Uzbekistan. The large logistics centres in Ankara and Istanbul were renovated and Aras Digital was founded as an IT provider for CEE/SEE countries in which Swiss Post is represented by subsidiaries.
Furthermore, Aras Kargo started a green transformation such as: through the purchase of e-vehicles (currently around 250 e-vehicles are in use in Turkey) for the last mile, or the start of the Green City project in Bodrum. Aras Kargo plays a considerable role in reforestation in Turkey – at least 16,000 trees are planted per year, a total of more than 200,000 so far. Last but not least, Aras Kargo entered new parcel markets such as Azerbaijan and Georgia via subsidiaries – and soon also in Uzbekistan.
