Postal services must face challenges from private players
Chief Post Master General (PMG) of Maharasthra and Goa, K NoorJehan said that the postal department needs to focus its energy in building a strong consumer base, in the face of tough competition from unregulated players such as the courier servcies.
She was addressing members of the staff, after the Secretary, Government of India, Director General, Department of Posts and Chairman, Postal Services Board, Jyotsna Diesh, dedicated a new EMS Speed Post Centre, near Santacruz Airport on the western suburbs today.
On the occasion, Diesh said that Mumbai being the financial nerve centre of the country, it was important for the department to create a seperate space for speed post sevrices, which finally took shape.
Apreciating the employees for their hard work and inspiring examples of dedication, she said more efforts must be invested to check the rising threat from private players.
Hence, it has become imperative for the postal services in the country to answer the wake-up call sounded by the 24-hour customer oriented globalization and competition encroaching the country.
Later, the Secretary conferred the much prolonged ‘Dak Seva Awards’ to five employees for their meritorious service. While, Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Pune and Goa received the best Gramin Dak Sevak Branch Postmasters citation.
Mumbai region also received the citation for the highest sales promotion in postal life insurance during 2005-2006.
