DHL Supply Chain opens a climate-neutral logistics centre in Halle an der Saale
DHL Supply Chain has opened its new logistics center in Halle an der Saale.
With its third location in the region, the division intends to further strengthen its presence in the Leipzig/Halle conurbation. The location is strategically integrated into the DHL Campus Leipzig/Halle and is already serving its first customers. The state-of-the-art logistics center offers a total of 34,000 square meters of storage space and up to 55,000 pallet spaces. This means that it is designed to meet the growing requirements of customers in a wide range of industries.
The Halle logistics centre comprises three halls, each with an area of 10,500 square metres, and has 27 loading gates. The site, which was built in accordance with the highest sustainability standards (DGNB Gold), is equipped with photovoltaic systems and energy-efficient LED lighting and underlines DHL’s commitment to supporting its customers with emission-reduced logistics services. The site currently employs more than 450 people, with a further 100 jobs to be created once the extension is fully utilised.
“In Halle an der Saale, we offer our customers from different industries a wide range of logistics solutions – based on in-depth know-how and extensive expertise in the technology sector,” says Aiste Slabokaite Heid, Business Unit Director North-East at DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps. “The proximity to Leipzig Airport (LEJ) allows for late cut-off times (10:30 p.m.) for worldwide delivery on the following day. Our offerings range from warehousing and picking – including dangerous goods and batteries – to value-added services and complex automated solutions implemented by our skilled and experienced team. Our success is based on strong partnerships and effective cooperation with our customers. The new logistics center will also support the growth of the customers already represented at the DHL Campus.”
Thanks to its convenient location, the location scores with optimal multimodal connections to the national DHL parcel and express network, the existing rail and highway network as well as to the Leipzig/Halle cargo airport, where DHL Express operates its world’s largest hub for global air freight shipments.
“With the construction of the second logistics center in Halle an der Saale, we have expanded our range of services at the DHL Campus Leipzig/Halle and can thus accelerate sustainable growth in the technology sector and other industries,” says Katrin Hölter, CEO DHL Supply Chain Germany & Alps. “Thanks to the new location, we are creating additional capacity and once again demonstrating our commitment to innovative, sustainable and forward-looking logistics solutions. We still have space available for customers who want to benefit from our efficient operations, experienced team and convenient location.”
