Thailand Post and Lao Post join forces
Thailand Post and Lao Post have jointly strengthened e-commerce and cross-border trade to drive digital economy connectivity across Thailand, Laos and China, reports Bangkok Post.
Dhanant Subhadrabandhu, president of Thailand Post, said both agencies entered a cooperative memorandum of understanding to strengthen e-commerce and cross-border trade.
He said the pact should reinforce Thailand Post’s role as a logistics leader in Southeast Asia.
The strategic partnership plays a pivotal role in connecting the digital economies of the Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, he said. “Given the rising momentum of the regional digital economy, Thailand Post and Lao Post share a vision to expand business opportunities for Thai and Lao entrepreneurs, while strengthening international trade,” Mr Dhanant said.
Among their joint frameworks is the implementation of sealed and unsealed mailbag exchange systems for air, land and EMS services across the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridges, alongside integration of the Electronic Data Interchange system to streamline customs processes.
The partnership also covers improving transparency and ensuring efficient cross-border e-commerce services, as well as expanding cash-on-delivery service to cover Thailand, Laos and China.
Both agencies are to develop e-wallet and electronic payment channels, while renewing an exclusive partnership with Western Union to support secure, modern and transparent international money transfer services.
The duo are expected to conduct knowledge exchange and staff training through on-site and virtual learning, improving operational competencies and service standards across both postal systems.
Thailand Post is integrating advanced technologies such as real-time parcel tracking and sealed mailbag systems to elevate international parcel safety, said Mr Dhanant.
Both sides are also harmonising postal fee structures to ensure fairness and competitiveness, helping reduce logistics costs for small businesses and online sellers across the region.
Furthermore, Thailand and Laos will coordinate on operations to improve service standards and maximise benefits for citizens of both nations, he said.
