DHL expands Time Definite Delivery service

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, has further enhanced its Time Definite Delivery (TDD) service to include parcels. The expansion will take effect from 1 November 2006.

A suite of time-definite delivery products, DHL’s TDD portfolio comprises StartDay Express for guaranteed delivery by 9 a.m., and MidDay Express for delivery by noon. Until now, customers have been able to send documents only with StartDay Express. With the latest service enhancement, it will be possible to deliver parcels as well by 9 am the next business day to five countries: Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore, and by 9 a.m. the second business day to Australia. In addition, customers will now also be able to send parcels to the Middle East using MidDay Express. with delivery by noon on the second business day in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

To use TDD, customers simply need to contact DHL’s Customer Service, and DHL staff will collect the shipments at the designated locations for delivery on the following business day or the day after. Customers can track their shipments via the DHL website, and they are notified via telephone, e-mail or facsimile when the delivery has been made. If the delivery is not made by the agreed time, DHL will notify the customer and follow up with a report on the cause of the delay. If DHL is responsible for the delay, DHL will reimburse all the shipping costs in accordance with DHL’s Money-back Guarantee Terms and Conditions.

DHL is the first company in the international express industry to establish guaranteed delivery by 9 a.m. for dutiable shipments to major Asia Pacific cities. TDD has been well received since its launch in 2003, and has been enhanced both in terms of geographical coverage and service offerings to better meet the needs of customers. Its geographical coverage has been expanded by more than six-fold, while the product offering, which previously only catered to documents, was extended to include declared-value parcels of up to a certain value limit* in response to overwhelming demand for such a service.

The six additional Asia Pacific countries and the UAE are regions with high transportation demand for electronic equipment, parts, textile and apparel. With today’s shorter product lifecycles and shorter time to market, DHL is confident that demand for its TDD service will continue to grow, especially in these two regions, which have seen an increasing need for greater speed in express and logistics services.
