bnode: All teams now have a clear roadmap for the years ahead

bnode’s (formerly bpostgroup) commitment to climate action has reached a new milestone. Following a thorough review, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has validated bnode’s climate targets. This recognition confirms that the group’s pathway is aligned with the latest scientific evidence and with the ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Pierre Fils, Sustainability Director at bnode: “Since our previous validation three years ago, bnode’s perimeter has evolved with the integration of Staci and the transformation currently underway. Integrating new activities also means integrating their emissions and operational realities. For us, sustainability must reflect this reality. Reviewing and having our climate targets validated after integrating new activities was therefore an obvious step: it is the only way to manage our impact in a rigorous and responsible manner. Beyond the figures, we have developed a comprehensive action plan to support our targets. All teams now have a clear roadmap for the years ahead.”

Scientific validation, a guarantee of credibility

The SBTi assesses companies’ climate commitments and verifies that they are based on sound scientific foundations. The validation obtained by bnode attests to the quality of the group’s CO₂ emissions calculations and the transparency of its methodology. It strengthens the group’s credibility with customers, partners, employees and investors.

Since Staci joined the group, numerous teams have been involved in preparing this submission. Working closely and in a coordinated manner, they refined the data, consolidated assumptions and defined a realistic yet ambitious pathway.

Ambitious targets by 2035 on the journey towards Net Zero by 2050

bnode’s short term target is to reduce our direct emissions ( Scope 1 & 2) by 71.3% and emissions from our Value chain ( Scope 3) by 38,1% by 2035 compared to 2024.

Our long term target and commitment is to reach Net Zero by 2050.

From recognition to action

SBTi validation marks an important milestone. In the coming months, bnode will accelerate the concrete implementation of its commitments, in particular through:

  • the continued electrification of vehicles and buildings;
  • the widespread purchase of green electricity;
  • enhanced collaboration with suppliers and subcontractors to reduce emissions across the entire value chain;
  • further reductions in the impact of commuting and operational waste.

These actions fully reflect the group’s ambition to combine operational performance, environmental responsibility and the creation of sustainable value for its customers.

Social ambitions

Alongside its climate plan, bnode is also working on defining social targets in close collaboration with HR and operational teams. The objective is clear: to sustainably improve quality of life at work and strengthen the attractiveness of the international group as a responsible employer.

bnode places governance at the heart of its sustainability strategy by embedding ethics in its culture, protecting personal data, and ensuring easy, equal and reliable access to essential postal services in Belgium for all citizens.
