DHL weighs location of North Asia hub

DHL, the world’s leading logistics service provider, sees fast growth in Asia, so it is considering construction of a hub in the north of the region.

As key cities there, Shanghai or Inchon will be selected express hub of north Asia in the coming three months, said Jerry Hsu, president for DHL Greater China.

The hub will be built up with multi-hundred million Euros, and it will become the third DHL hub in Asia besides that in Hong Kong and Singapore after completion.

In August this year, DHL entered into a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai Airport (Group) Co., indicating the intention of building the hub there. However, the final decision will be made based on examination and review on the two cities.

DHL Asia Pacific CEO Scott Price showed that airline partners’ development orientation for the following decade is a significant factor for the decision making in addition to costs of land, labor, taxation and clearance.
