DHL places even greater stakes on Galicia with the opening of its customs services in Santiago

Since last 28th November, DHL has started operating with its own import customs office in Santiago de Compostela.
Prior to this change of service, all shipments carried to Galicia by DHL were managed by the Customs Office in Vitoria, the head office for incoming and outgoing air freight in Spain, Portugal, the South of France and North Africa.

International shipments to any part of Galicia will therefore be directly dealt with by the Santiago customs office, simplifying the procedures involved and delivery to end clients, improving consequently the quality of the service.

DHL is the only company in the sector to offer this service of receiving merchandise sent by air and carrying out the corresponding customs red tape in Santiago de Compostela.

This new step ahead serves to strengthen the stakes placed on Galicia by DHL, which has grown over recent months in the shape of new infrastructures and service improvements.
In October, DHL had already doubled its load capacity at Santiago Airport with a new, more spacious plane.
This plane, an ATR42, increased the amount of DHL goods traffic in Galicia, due to the fact that it can carry 10 tons per day instead of the 5 tons handled to date.

DHL has been operating at Santiago Airport since 1996 and handles over 120 tons of goods a month received with two daily flights, one in the morning, bringing the goods to be delivered to Galicia during the day, and another late-afternoon flight, which leaves with goods for Vitoria, where it links to the DHL distribution routes for Spain and Portugal and with international connections.

Moreover, in June of this year, DHL opened its new installations for the province of Pontevedra in Vigo.
With a total surface area of 16,710 m2, the new DHL installations are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies including a conveyor belt capable of classifying 2,700 packages an hour for improved transit times and efficiency.

DHL has installations in all of the Galician provinces, located in A Coruña, Santiago, Vigo, Lugo and Ourense, and is the company in the sector to offer the widest service coverage in the Autonomous Community.
