DHL UK first to use new sustainability reporting standard

DHL, the world's leading Express and Logistics company, has released the first Sustainability Report for its operations in the UK. Prepared in accordance with the Transport and Logistics industry guidelines set out by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), makes this Report the first of its kind for the industry.

The Sustainability Report covers both the Express and Aviation divisions of DHL UK. It provides stakeholders with detailed information about the economic, environmental and social performance of DHL in the UK and the company's aspirations for the future. The report includes information that is of particular relevance to the Transportation and Logistics industry and its customers, such as managing Health and Safety, managing the impacts of climate change from air and road transport, the handling of hazardous goods, road safety and managing noise in local communities.

Highlights from the 2006 UK Sustainability Report include:
DHL Express UK provided transportation safety training to a further 628 employees in 2005 (equalling 5,748 hours)
The environmental management system certification according to ISO14001 was achieved at 13 DHL sites across the UK
Local integration programs such as "Skills in Motion" have been initiated encouraging employees to work with community partners to share skills and build expertise
1,100 staff received training on environmental issues such as climate change
DHL pilots are conducting trials of a Continuous Descent Approach during landing which is reducing noise close to the ground as well as emissions.

Chris Muntwyler, CEO DHL Express UK & Ireland, comments on the Sustainability Report, "Sustainability is very much at the heart of DHL's business. As a company we know we have impacts on society and the environment. We are very proud with the achievements detailed in the Sustainability Report. Not only do we seek to offer the best possible service to our customers, but we are introducing new ways to manage potential risks within our business to give our customers increased confidence and transparency working with DHL."

The UK-specific Sustainability Report compliments the Global Sustainability Report produced by DHL's parent company, Deutsche Post World Net.
