Correos opens a new centre in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Correos initiates its activity in the new Center of Automated Treatment (CTA) in Las Palmas of Gran Canarias, in facilities with more 5.000 square meters. Between 450.000 and 500.000 letters and postal objects of standardized format will be processed daily of way automated in this center, that has machines able to classify more than 40.000 shipments per hour.

The new CTA will canalize all the correspondence born in the province of Las Palmas and will serve as receiving center as the originating one of the exterior. The mail directed to the interior of the province will be sent to the centers of classified distribution by postal codes and section of distribution. Near 350 sections will receive the mail classified with that detail, which will simplify the internal tasks of the sorting offices and will improve the served service, since the mailmen will have more time to the domiciliary distribution. Also, Correos will have greater guarantees to confront the precise increases of volume of correspondence, because the new equipment can manage more shipments in terms such.

With the entrance in operation of the CTA of Las Palmas, there are already operative 16 of the 17 Centers anticipated in the Plan of Automatization of Correos, whose objective is to improve the quality in the distribution of the shipments. They have been completed infrastructures in Bilbao, Madrid, Valencia, Oviedo, Tenerife, Vitoria, Barcelona, Sevilla, Málaga, Valladolid, Santiago de Compostela, Zaragoza, Granada, Palma de Mallorca and Mérida, and it only remains the CTA of Alicante that is at the moment in construction.
