Sandd strengthens position in Dutch market
Sandd has further strengthened its position in the Dutch market with 320 million items of post in 2006
Sandd, the second largest postal business in the Netherlands, saw its turnover grow in 2006 by almost 40% compared with 2005 to about euro 68 million. From 80 distribution centres and with 10,500 staff, Sandd looked after over 320 million items of post for about 1,500 customers . In this way its market share in the liberalised sector of the postal market has grown to 12%. Market share grows from 8% to 12%
Sandd saw volume delivered grow from 230 million items of post in 2005 to 320 million in 2006.
In this way Sandd’s market share within the liberalised postal market has grown from 8% to 12%. Besides strong growth within the publishing and financial sectors, Sandd has succeeded in making new long-term contracts with its existing partners. By this means Sandd has further strengthened its Number 2 position. Bart Stomphorst, CEO of Sandd: “One of our targets for 2006 was to strengthen our position within the publishing and financial sectors. We have succeeded in that. A good 40% of all publishers are clients of Sandd. In addition we have contracts with practically all the banks in the Netherlands as a preferred supplier along with TNT.”
Profit increases to 8%
With turnover of almost euro 68 million Sandd saw its operating profit grow from 5% in 2005 to 8% in 2006. What is more, for the first time in the 5 years of its existence, Sandd has achieved a net positive result. Compared with 2005, turnover in 2006 grew from euro 50 million to euro 68 million. We have a solid position within the Dutch postal market.”
430 million items of post in 2007
For 2007 Sandd expects a volume increase of 35% to 430 million items of post. This will expand the market share to 16%. The expectation is that turnover in 2007 will finish up at a good euro 85 million.
At the end of 2006 Sandd brought its new sorting depot and head office into operation. With the transfer to the 10,000 m² sorting depot and the implementation of a new and innovative sorting system in the first half of 2007, the quality of Sandd’s services will be further improved. After years of investment Sandd is now ready for the liberalisation of the Dutch postal market on 1st January 2008. According to expectations the new cabinet will finally decide to abolish the monopoly in the postal market in mid-April. Bart Stomphorst: “We are becoming more and more convinced that SMEs and consumers must in fact be able to benefit from a free postal market and dispatch items at lower rates . So it’s absolutely vital for the postal market to be completely liberalised as soon as possible.”

Sandd is the second largest postal business in the Netherlands. With fixed handling periods, attractive rates and a reliable service, since 2001 Sandd has been looking after addressed
printed matter for a diverse clientele from charitable institutions to mail order clients and from direct mailing to magazines. Sandd’s aim is a market share of 20-25% in 2011.
