TNT Express generates fast growth in Russia
TNT Express grew strongly in Russia last year and increased its business by 35% after expanding its network. Domestic volumes grew faster than international items.
TNT Express Russia announced that it transported 1.5 million shipments in 2006. Domestic volumes, which currently account for 40% of total deliveries, grew by 40 % last year. International items, which are still the bulk of the business with 60% of shipments, grew by 20%. Special services, which offer individual business solutions, grew by 60%.
The number of employees increased last year by 20% to more than 500, while the vehicle fleet was expanded by 30%. The number of corporate customers almost doubled.
TNT Express Russia further expanded its regional network by opening new branches in Vladivostok, Irkutsk and 10 other regions. It set up a regular air route between Kaunas (Lithuania) and St. Petersburg to cope with the rising volumes and to reduce the transit delivery times.
Harro van Graafeiland, managing director of TNT Express in Russia, said: “2006 was a year of accelerated growth of our company in Russia. The Russian market is very promising and important to us. We are expanding our network in the regions, assuring delivery in 5500 cities all over Russia, and our direct flights allow us to be one step ahead.”
In other moves, the company also created a customer contact centre with integrated communications, and gained certification for professional training, health & safety as well as TAPA.
