DHL to expand its datacentre
Express services and logistics company DHL International plans to expand its Asia-Pacific IT services datacentre in nearby Cyberjaya.
With this expansion, DHL’s investment in the MSC Malaysia initiative will have surpassed RM1.5bil since its establishment there almost 10 years ago.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi during a press conference after the closing of the IAP meeting on Friday.
The enhanced datacentre will have state-ofthe- art facilities and 70% more rack space than the current centre.
The building work is expected to be completed over the next five years.
After that, DHL IT Services Asia-Pacific will be able to host more services as well as offer new and innovative IT solutions that it believes are crucial to the logistics business.
“The expansion will provide us with additional infrastructure to deal with the ever increasing transactions that DHL handles as a result of business growth in the region,” said Lee Chuan Yew, head of DHL IT Services Asia-Pacific.
He said DHL Asia-Pacific anticipates more opportunities for training, career development and recruitment of Malaysia’s knowledge workers.
Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC), caretaker of MSC Malaysia, sees DHL’s planned expansion as another feather in its cap for maintaining the confidence of global investors in the initiative.
“The trust that DHL has in us is further proof that MSC Malaysia offers a conducive environment and a strong business ecosystem that is capable of supporting global companies interested in setting up shop here,” said Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, chief executive officer of MDeC.
