Logistics can give environmental lead says Pall-Ex
Pall-Ex claims the haulage industry can set an example to other sectors in protecting the environment. Tony Mellor, senior commercial manager at the pallet network, says it is constantly looking for new ways to improve its environmental performance and has already implemented a range of positive steps. “Pall-Ex operates a fleet of forklift trucks powered by environmentally-friendly comp-ressed natural gas, reducing polluting emissions to an absolute minimum,” Mellor explains.
Mounted barcode scanners have recently been fitted to the entire forklift truck fleet, with a view to reduction of paper used for pallet processing checks through the hub. We also recycle wood from broken pallets. “Everyone in logistics could be looking at introducing these types of improvements, and the [haulage] industry could set an example to other sectors,” he states.
Meanwhile, the company recently celebrated handling its 12-millionth pallet since it started in 1996. Renata Jones, Pall-Ex spokeswoman, adds: “The company is incredibly proud to achieve such a phenomenal level of pallet throughput in our tenth year of business.”
