SPECIAL SERVICES FOR ELECTION DAY
On election day, Correos has to deliver the postal votes to the polling stations, and has established special provisions to carry out this job.
First thing in the morning, a first team made up by around 8,700 workers will deliver the votes it has kept in custody to the corresponding Polling Stations (around 60,000 in the whole of Spain).
Another group of employees will take the postal votes received during election day to the Polling Stations.
A final group, consisting of around 12,000 employees, will be responsible for collecting, at the end of the day, the ‘third envelopes’ with a copy of the ballot count from each of the Polling Stations.
Correos will keep these envelopes until delivering them on Monday 10 March, first thing in the morning, to the corresponding Electoral Offices.
VOTES FROM ABROAD
As regards votes from abroad, Correos is delivering the envelopes with the votes sent by residents abroad to the Regional Electoral Offices once a day, and will make the last delivery on the third day after election day, i.e., 12 March, first thing in the morning.
To ensure the optimum running of the process, every day the postal company coordinates the priority delivery of the postal votes, in particular with the 26 countries where the majority of Spanish residents abroad are situated and with Iberia and other airline freight managers.
VOTING CARDS AND ELECTION PROPAGANDA
Correos’ collaboration in the General Elections and Elections to the Parliament of Andalusia also extends to delivering the cards showing registration on the electoral roll and delivering election propaganda.
In the last few weeks, the public company has delivered 33,867,077 census cards sent by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (National Statistics Institute) to people with a right to vote on 9 March; these cards show details of the person’s registration on the electoral roll.
