DHL turns to the next chapter in UK publishing

Supply chain expert provides delivery service at London Book Fair
Taking the theme of The Next Chapter, DHL will be on stand U575 at this year’s London Book Fair (14 -18 April 2008, Earls Court), highlighting its full range of services for the publishing industry, which is currently facing similar threats to those experienced by the retail supply chain, most notably ‘route to reader’ issues.
DHL provides innovative supply chain solutions to 85% of the UK publishing industry.
Mark Siviter, Executive Board Director from DHL, is heading a multi-functional group from across the supply chain business that has been created to serve the publishing sector. He explained that the sector has a number of significant challenges it needs to overcome over the next decade.
He said: “With the unrelenting threat from new technologies and the constant drive to reduce waste and improve corporate and social responsibility, publishing companies should consider embracing the opportunities of real collaboration within the sector. DHL has worked in many other industry sectors to bring about genuine supply chain partnerships that have generated cost savings and efficiencies far greater than are currently being seen in the publishing arena. We believe recent changes to the retail publishing supply chain could prove to be a catalyst for change.
Complete end-to-end supply chain solution
He continued: “We believe that the publishing sector needs to look at new ways of delivering products to the end user and consider outsourcing the planning, management and implementation of the supply chain. DHL offers a complete end-to-end supply chain solution to the publishing industry and the trend for an integrate logistics service is set to grow over the next few years. We are increasingly seeing industries focusing on their core skills, leaving specialist services such as logistics to companies like DHL.”
DHL’s publishing team, a multi-functional group from across the business, will be supporting this year’s London Book Fair by providing a service point (stand Y300) at the event, which will enable attendees to courier books to any location in the world.
DHL provides innovative supply chain solutions to 85% of the UK’s publishing industry, via its Exel Supply Chain, Express, Global Mail and Global Forwarding business units.
