Royal Mail Group Chairman Allan Leighton officially launched a new corporate partnership with the children and young people’s charity Barnardo’s yesterday at the Chairman’s Awards for Excellence. The annual awards celebrate the achievements of Royal Mail Group people who make a positive contribution to their local community or workplace.
Royal Mail Group’s new charity partner was chosen following a business-wide ballot of employees as the successful three-year partnership with Help the Hospices ended in March this year. Kay Allen, Royal Mail Group Head of Social Action and Inclusion said, “As a large organisation with people working in every town and city in the UK we were looking to partner a UK wide charity so that everyone can get involved and make a contribution locally, regardless of where they work. I am confident that our people will rise to the new challenge – already Barnardo’s is one of the favourite charities that employees donate to through payroll giving and we will be encouraging our people nationwide to volunteer and to organise local fundraising events.”
On hearing the news that Barnardo’s had been successful in its bid to become Royal Mail Group’s new charity partner, Chief Executive Martin Narey commented, ” I am truly delighted that Royal Mail Group staff have chosen Barnardo’s and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for us and to those who will be raising vital funds. People at Royal Mail have an excellent reputation for raising money for charity and I hope we can inspire them with our work with 115,000 of the most disadvantaged children in the UK to raise a record amount. I look forward to working with them.”
