DHL Global Mail expands Parcel Plus offering (U.S)

DHL Global Mail announced the expansion of its Smartmail Parcel Plus service to include packages weighing up to 10 lbs.

With this new weight limit, Parcel Plus now offers e-tailers and other high-volume mailers a more cost-effective alternative to traditional courier options for residential delivery. That means more companies can save without sacrificing speed, since Parcel Plus transit times remain highly competitive (2-5 day average for Expedited service, or 5-10 days for Budget). And Parcel Plus continues to provide the businesses demand, thanks to DHL Global Mail’s network and workshare partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, which handles final-mile delivery.

The expanded Parcel Plus service is available effective September 1, 2008.

“Expanding our Parcel Plus offering further demonstrates our commitment to delivering parcels to both commercial and residential addresses through our Workshare partnership with the USPS,” said Lee Spratt, Senior Vice President of DHL Global Mail’s Domestic Business Unit. “In turn, we are also expanding the shipping options available to e-tailers and other high-volume parcel mailers.”

There are many advantages to Parcel Plus, whose delivery area covers the continental U.S. as well as Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and APO/FPO addresses. In addition to free Delivery Confirmation, Parcel Plus provides Web Portal access for viewing tracking information, transit times, piece-level billing and custom reporting. Even with these advantages, Parcel Plus still reduces the cost of shipping, enabling companies to stop paying delivery-area and residential surcharges. There are no address correction fees, and unlike competing services, Parcel Plus offers Saturday delivery at no additional charge.

The expanded Parcel Plus service is available effective September 1, 2008. To qualify, package dimensions must be 3”x 6”x .25” to 18”x 14”x 6”.
