Postcomm to examine new Royal Mail product

Postcomm to look at Royal Mail’s environmentaly friendly “Sustainable Mail” initiative.

The new retail product promotes recycling of direct mail.

Postcomm confirms that it has been informed by Royal Mail about its plan to launch Sustainable Mail.

We welcome Royal Mail’s proposal because it appears to be an environmentally-friendly product which can help to maintain the financeability and sustainability of the universal service. However, we will need to examine the impact of Sustainable Mail on customers and competition, and whether the new product should be subject to price control.

Postcomm will be considering these issues in the coming months, and aims to launch a consultation on Royal Mail’s proposal before the end of the first quarter of 2009.
