Postcomm's statement on the Hooper Report

Postcomm responded to the publication of the Independent Review Panel’s report on the UK postal services sector.

Postcomm responded to the publication of the Independent Review Panel’s report on the UK postal services sector.

Nigel Stapleton, Chairman, Postcomm said:
“We welcome the report’s emphasis on securing the provision of the universal postal service. We agree with its overall conclusion that the status quo is not tenable and that the universal service is under threat.
“A healthy, sustainable Royal Mail, within an innovative and competitive market, is vital to the success of not only the postal industry as a whole but also in particular to consumers and small businesses who rely on delivery of their letters, packets, and parcels.
“Royal Mail’s financial position is precarious, and the Panel’s report identifies radical measures that are needed to rectify the situation. We believe that these measures have to be implemented as a package and without delay. Any loss of momentum will further threaten the universal postal service.”
