APC overnight to present British alternative to Dutch TNT Post stake in Royal Mail

Royal Mail and the Government should look closer to home for a business partner said APC Overnight.

APC Overnight said that existing UK market leaders such as APC Overnight, Parcelnet, Home Delivery Network and City Link all present viable alternatives to Dutch-owned TNT Post.

“APC Overnight can be part of a UK partnership that could resolve the Royal Mail issue. APC Overnight operates the UK’s largest network of regional depots handling tens of thousands of small packets and parcels every night. We are ready to demonstrate our capabilities and show precisely what we can offer as a UK business,” says Jon Barber, the company’s Marketing Director. “A Royal Mail – TNT Post partnership, therefore, should not be seen as a foregone conclusion, as there are several British-owned companies that should be considered. We encourage Royal Mail and the Government to investigate other options to TNT Post and we invite them to review what APC Overnight offers.”

APC Overnight has already been involved in developing local parcel centres and easy home collection solutions designed for areas where Post Offices are closing. “We provide a packets and parcels collection service from the home or office, which everyone can arrange online. We have also developed parcel drop-off centres for shops, petrol stations – or even through postal kiosks,” says Jon Barber.

“With the downturn in the economy the Government should be looking to protect British jobs and UK parcels networks that not only have the infrastructure and capacity but are also well ahead in the technology stakes. Higher levels of services are already being offered by independent operators who for years have provided alternatives to Royal Mail services and have consistently delivered the ‘post’ on time,” he adds.

APC Overnight is able to provide a full national collection and delivery service to every corner of the British Isles for small packets and parcels, as well as secure services for sensitive documents. The organisation boasts one of the UK’s most advanced hub and depot networks and has a programme of continuous investment in technology.
