Piedmont Triad International Airport will receive an additional $3m in Department of Transportation (DOT) grant money for funding new taxiways at the airport’s FedEx hub.

The DOT awarded a $5m grant in December, which brings the total amount awarded to the airport to about $8m.

The FedEx hub is expected to employ around 400 people at the facility.

“This taxiway is the final step which will allow all aircraft, including the FedEx planes serving the new FedEx Mid-Atlantic Hub, to use Runway 5L/23R,” said Piedmont Triad Airport Authority director Ted Johnson.
