Donahoe issues warning at leading industry conference

USPS deputy postmaster general & COO Pat Donahoe warned the US mail market may never reach the 200bn items per annum level again, whilst addressing major industry players at the World Mail & Express Americas Conference and Exhibition.

USPS deputy postmaster general & COO Pat Donahoe warned the US mail market may never reach the 200bn items per annum level again, whilst addressing major industry players at the World Mail & Express Americas Conference and Exhibition.

Donahoe said the mail market is unlikely to recover to previous levels during a keynote presentation to representatives from the postal, global mail and express industry at the internationally-renowned event, held at the Hilton Miami from 24-25 February.

With 35 thought-provoking speakers delivering intriguing presentations on a vast array of subjects dominating the sector today, the conference was labelled a great success.

The event – which was attended by more than 200 board level mail and express executives from over 40 countries – was staged by Triangle Management Services, the global specialists in the mail, express and logistics industry.

John Modd, of Triangle, said: “Speakers and delegates were all very aware of the current economic challenges. But what particularly struck me was the underlying sense of optimism, and the desire of most of the public and private operators to work together for the benefit of the customer. The scale of networking going on reinforced this impression.”

The two-day event – the only annual conference dealing with international and national post and parcel matters for nearly a billion people – addressed the issue of ‘Sharing Diversity’. As well as Donahoe, a number of keynote presentations were given, including Carlos Silva, head of the International Unit at CTT Correios de Portugal, who discussed developing links between Europe and South America.

A number of the sector’s leading companies sponsored the conference, including: UPS, FedEx, DHL, Swiss Post and USPS. Other headline speakers at the prestigious event included: Chris Fitzgerald of Pitney Bowles, Javier Lobo of El Correo Guatemala, Colin Lucas of Trinidad Post, and Albert Hernandez of Sky Postal.
