Correios (Brazil) 2008 Results
Summary of two press releases from February 27 and March 17:
– contrasting with many other postal operators across the world, the Brazilian Post (ECT) had a very good year 2008.
– revenues increased 13% t$ (Brazilian Reals) 11 billion (= US $ 4.8 B)
– income R$ 800 million (US $ 350 m)
– in total ECT is paying out R$ 2.5 billion (US $ 1.1 b) to the Brazilian State in dividends and tax.
– number of contract employees increased from 108,000 to 112,000
The ECT CEO, C. H. Custodio said good performance resulted from the Post s efforts to keep expenses under control, invest in staff development and new technologies, and keep customers trust.
Speaking on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the creation of ECT, Custodio highlighted three strategic objectives:
– international (open the Post to international markets)
– targeted direct mail services
– micro-credits.
